Anatoli Nikolaevich Boukreev was a renowned Russian mountaineer known for his exceptional high-altitude climbing skills.
He gained international recognition for his heroic actions during the 1996 Mount Everest disaster, where he saved several lives.
Boukreev was known for his ability to climb without supplemental oxygen and his "old school" approach to mountaineering.
He worked as a guide on numerous expeditions and was respected in the climbing community for his strength and endurance.
Tragically, Boukreev died in an avalanche on Annapurna in 1997, just a year after the Everest incident.
His book "The Climb" serves as both a memoir and a rebuttal to criticisms of his actions during the 1996 disaster.
