Angela Yvonne Davis is an American activist, scholar, and author known for her work in civil rights, feminism, and prison abolition.
A former leader in the Communist Party USA with ties to the Black Panther Party, Davis gained national prominence in the 1960s.
She faced legal challenges, including a high-profile trial in which she was acquitted.
Davis is the founder of Critical Resistance, an organization working to abolish the prison-industrial complex.
A retired professor from the University of California, Santa Cruz, her research interests span African American studies, critical theory, Marxism, and the philosophy of punishment and prisons.
