Spirituality
Anthony de Mello was a Jesuit priest, psychotherapist, and spiritual teacher known for his books on spirituality and self-awareness.
He gained international recognition as a speaker and retreat leader, combining Eastern and Western spiritual traditions in his teachings.
De Mello established a prayer center in India and produced several influential talks and writings.
However, his work became controversial within the Catholic Church, with some of his opinions condemned by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in 1998.
Despite this, de Mello's books remain popular and continue to be published posthumously, often with disclaimers noting that they were not intended as Catholic instructional manuals.
