Aung San Suu Kyi

Aung San Suu Kyi is a Burmese political leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate known for her efforts to promote democracy in Myanmar.

Born to prominent parents, she spent much of her life abroad before returning to Myanmar in 1988 to care for her ailing mother.

Suu Kyi became involved in the pro-democracy movement, leading to long periods of house arrest by the military government.

Despite winning a landslide election in 1990, the results were ignored by the junta.

Suu Kyi continued her nonviolent struggle for human rights, facing harassment and restrictions while gaining international recognition for her work.
