Carolyn Jessop is a former member of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS) who wrote the autobiographical book Escape.
Born into a polygamist family, she was forced to marry a 50-year-old man at age 18 and had eight children before fleeing the FLDS community.
Jessop's cousin by marriage, Flora Jessop, is also a former FLDS member and child advocate.
After escaping, Carolyn settled in the Salt Lake City area with her children.
In 2010, she became engaged to Brian Moroney, celebrating her newfound freedom of choice.
Jessop's story has brought significant attention to the issues surrounding polygamist sects and child welfare.
