Jetsun Jamphel Ngawang Lobsang Yeshe Tenzin Gyatso , known as the 14th Dalai Lama, is a prominent Buddhist monk and the exiled leader of Tibet.
Born in 1935 to a farming family, he was recognized as the Dalai Lama at age two.
He became Tibet's political ruler at 15, just as China invaded in 1950.
After failed peace talks and an uprising, he fled to India in 1959, establishing a government in exile.
The Dalai Lama is known for promoting Buddhism, universal responsibility, and religious harmony in the West.
He has received numerous honors, including the Nobel Peace Prize, for his advocacy of Tibetan rights and global peace.
