Halberstam gained prominence for his Vietnam War reporting, winning a Pulitzer at age 30.
His most famous work, "The Best and the Brightest," examined the paradox of intelligent men shaping failed U.S. Vietnam policies.
Later in his career, Halberstam focused on sports writing, producing books on basketball and baseball.
He authored numerous books across decades until his death in a car crash in 2007.
