David Grégoire Van Reybrouck is a Belgian cultural historian, archaeologist, and author known for his diverse literary works including historical fiction, non-fiction, novels, poetry, and plays.
Born into a family with artistic roots, he studied archaeology and philosophy at the University of Leuven, obtained a Master's in World Archaeology from Cambridge, and holds a doctorate from Leiden University.
Van Reybrouck's father spent five years in the Democratic Republic of the Congo as a railway engineer post-independence, influencing his interest in colonial history.
He is also recognized for founding the G1000 project in Belgium, a platform for democratic innovation and inclusive participatory politics.
