Richard Bruce "Dick" Cheney served as the 46th Vice President of the United States from 2001 to 2009 under George W. Bush.
Born in Nebraska and raised in Wyoming, Cheney began his political career as an intern for Congressman William A. Steiger.
He worked his way up to White House Chief of Staff during the Ford administration.
Cheney was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Wyoming in 1978, serving five terms and becoming House Minority Whip.
He later served as Secretary of Defense under George H. W. Bush, overseeing Operation Desert Storm.
Between political appointments, Cheney was chairman and CEO of Halliburton Company from 1995 to 2000.
