Dick Winters

History
  • Major Richard "Dick" D. Winters commanded Company E, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division during World War II. He parachuted into Normandy on D-Day and fought across Europe, eventually commanding the 2nd Battalion.

  • After the war, Winters briefly served during the Korean War before returning to civilian life.

  • He gained widespread recognition through the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers, in which he was portrayed by Damian Lewis.

  • Winters became a frequent lecturer at West Point and was featured in several books about Easy Company.

  • He retired in 1997 and was the last surviving Easy Company commander when he passed away.
