Philosophy
Epictetus was a Greek Stoic philosopher born into slavery in Hierapolis, Phrygia (modern-day Turkey) around 50 CE. He lived in Rome until his exile to Nicopolis, Greece, where he spent most of his life teaching philosophy.
Epictetus emphasized that philosophy is a way of life, not just theoretical knowledge.
He taught that external events are beyond our control, but we can control our reactions to them through self-discipline.
His teachings, recorded by his student Arrian, focus on achieving happiness through accepting fate, fulfilling one's duty, and cultivating virtue.
Epictetus's ideas have had a lasting influence on Western philosophy and continue to inspire readers seeking practical wisdom for living well.
