Ernest K. Gann was a multi-talented individual who excelled as an aviator, author, filmmaker, sailor, and conservationist.
He began his aviation career in the 1930s, flying for American Airlines and later joining the Air Transport Command during World War II. Gann's diverse flying experiences, including transatlantic flights and perilous missions over the Himalayas, inspired his writing.
He authored 21 best-selling novels, with "The High and the Mighty" and "Fate Is the Hunter" among his most famous works.
