Esphyr Slobodkina was a Russian-American artist, author, and illustrator best known for her children's book "Caps for Sale." Born in Siberia in 1908, she immigrated to the United States in 1928.
Slobodkina studied art at the National Academy of Design and became a founding member of the American Abstract Artists group.
Her artistic style, influenced by Constructivism and Suprematism, is evident in her illustrations.
Slobodkina wrote and illustrated numerous children's books throughout her career, but "Caps for Sale" remains her most famous work.
