Eugen Herrigel

Eugen Herrigel was a German philosopher who taught at Tohoku Imperial University in Japan from 1924 to 1929.

His experiences learning archery during this time formed the basis for his influential book "Zen in the Art of Archery." Herrigel is credited with introducing Zen philosophy to Europe through his writings.

However, his legacy is complicated by his involvement with the Nazi Party.

He was a member of the Militant League for German Culture and maintained Nazi beliefs until his death.

Despite this controversial aspect of his life, Herrigel's work on Zen continues to be widely read and discussed in Western countries.
