Geoffrey Canada is an African-American social activist and educator who has dedicated his life to improving outcomes for underprivileged children.
Born and raised in the South Bronx, he experienced firsthand the challenges of growing up in a violent, impoverished environment.
Canada earned degrees from Bowdoin College and Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Since 1990, he has served as president and CEO of the Harlem Children's Zone, a pioneering organization that provides comprehensive support to children and families in Harlem.
His memoir, Fist Stick Knife Gun, draws on his personal experiences to shed light on the cycle of violence in America's inner cities and propose solutions for breaking that cycle.
