George Bernard Shaw was an Irish playwright and social critic who wrote over 60 plays addressing social issues with comedic elements.
A co-founder of the London School of Economics, Shaw was a passionate socialist who advocated for workers' rights and equal opportunities.
He married Charlotte Payne-Townshend in 1898 and lived in Ayot St. Lawrence.
Shaw is the only person to have won both a Nobel Prize in Literature and an Oscar.
He initially rejected public honors but accepted the Nobel Prize at his wife's insistence.
Shaw died at age 94 after a fall exacerbated his chronic health problems.
