George Raymond Richard Martin is an American author born in 1948 in New Jersey.
He began writing at a young age, selling monster stories to neighborhood children.
Martin's professional writing career started in 1970 with short story sales to science fiction magazines.
He worked various jobs, including teaching and television production, before becoming a full-time writer in 1979.
Martin's breakthrough came with his epic fantasy series "A Song of Ice and Fire," which began with "A Game of Thrones" in 1996.
The series gained worldwide popularity and was adapted into the highly successful HBO television show "Game of Thrones." Martin is known for his complex characters, intricate plotlines, and willingness to subvert traditional fantasy tropes.
