Greg Mortenson

Greg Mortenson is the co-founder of Central Asia Institute and co-author of "Three Cups of Tea." Born in 1957, he grew up in Tanzania and served in the U.S. Army.

After a failed K2 climb in 1993, he promised to build a school in a Pakistani village, leading to his humanitarian work.

Mortenson has established over 131 schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan, educating thousands of children.

He's faced challenges, including kidnapping and threats, but gained respect from local communities.

Mortenson received Pakistan's highest civil award and was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

He lives in Montana with his wife and two children.
