Izzeldin Abuelaish
Izzeldin Abuelaish is a Palestinian physician and peace activist.
Born in a Gaza refugee camp, he overcame poverty to become a doctor.
He worked in Israeli hospitals, becoming the first Palestinian to hold a staff position there.
Abuelaish gained international attention when his daughters were killed by an Israeli tank shell in 2009.
Despite this tragedy, he continues to advocate for peace and understanding between Israelis and Palestinians.
He founded the Daughters for Life Foundation in memory of his children.
Currently, Abuelaish is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto, where he continues his work in public health and promoting Israeli-Palestinian relations.
