Jan Maarten Troost , known professionally as J. Maarten Troost, is a Dutch-American travel writer and essayist born in 1969 in the Netherlands.
He gained recognition for his book "The Sex Lives of Cannibals: Adrift in the Equatorial Pacific." Troost's essays have appeared in prominent publications like the Atlantic Monthly and Washington Post.
He spent two years in Kiribati and later worked as a World Bank consultant.
After living in Fiji for several years, Troost relocated to California with his wife and son.
