  • James Hillman was an American psychologist who founded the movement of archetypal psychology.

  • Born in 1926, he served in the US Navy Hospital Corps before studying at the Sorbonne and Trinity College, Dublin.

  • He received his PhD from the University of Zurich and his analyst's diploma from the C.G. Jung Institute.

  • Hillman was Director of Studies at the Jung Institute and later became editor of Spring Publications.

  • His book Re-visioning Psychology was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.

  • He co-founded the Dallas Institute for Humanities and Culture and continued writing and lecturing until his death in 2011 from bone cancer.
