James Lee Burke is an acclaimed American author known for his mystery novels, particularly the Dave Robicheaux series.
Born in Houston, he grew up on the Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast and has worked various jobs, including in the oil industry and as a social worker.
Burke has won two Edgar Awards for Best Novel.
He splits his time between Montana and Louisiana.
His daughter, Alafair Burke, is also a mystery novelist.
Burke's writing is influenced by William Faulkner's "The Sound and the Fury." He has taught creative writing and held the position of Writer in Residence at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
