John Kiriakou

John Kiriakou served in the CIA from 1990-2004 as an analyst and counterterrorism operations officer.

He worked extensively on Iraq and the Persian Gulf, later transitioning to operations in Greece.

After 9/11, he became chief of counterterrorist operations in Pakistan, contributing to the capture of Abu Zubaydah.

In 2007, Kiriakou became a whistleblower, revealing the CIA's use of torture as official U.S. policy.

This led to legal charges, including espionage and violating the Intelligence Identities Protection Act.

Despite claiming no criminal intent or harm to national security, he accepted a plea resulting in a 30-month prison sentence.
