John McCain

John Sidney McCain III was an American politician and naval officer who served as a U.S. Senator from Arizona from 1987 until his death in 2018.

He was the Republican nominee for President in 2008, losing to Barack Obama.

McCain graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and served as a naval aviator during the Vietnam War, where he was captured and held as a prisoner of war for over five years.

After retiring from the Navy, he entered politics, serving in the House of Representatives before becoming a Senator.

Known for his "maverick" reputation, McCain championed causes like campaign finance reform and was respected for his bipartisanship on certain issues.
