Kanae Minato is a Japanese crime fiction and thriller writer born in 1973.
She began her writing career in her thirties, with her debut novel "Confessions" becoming a bestseller and winning the Japanese Booksellers Award.
The book's film adaptation was nominated for an Academy Award in 2011.
Minato is known in Japan as "the queen of iyamisu" (eww mystery), a subgenre focusing on grisly episodes and the dark side of human nature.
