Leon Trotsky , born Lev Davidovitch Bronstein, was a prominent Bolshevik revolutionary and Marxist theorist.
He played a key role in the 1917 Russian Revolution and held important positions in the early Soviet government, including founder of the Red Army.
After losing a power struggle with Stalin in the 1920s, Trotsky was exiled and later assassinated in Mexico.
He remained a vocal critic of Stalin's regime and developed his own strand of Marxist thought, known as Trotskyism.
Trotsky's writings, including "The Revolution Betrayed," continue to influence leftist thought.
Despite his significance, the Soviet Union never rehabilitated his reputation.
