Lin Yutang

Lin Yutang was a prolific Chinese writer and cultural critic active in the early to mid-20th century.

Born to a Presbyterian minister, he initially studied for the ministry but later renounced Christianity.

Lin gained fame for introducing Western-style satirical magazines to China in the 1930s.

He wrote extensively in both Chinese and English, with his 1935 book "My Country and My People" becoming a standard text on China.

Lin's work often focused on bridging Eastern and Western cultures, translating Chinese literary classics and writing novels like "Moment in Peking." Despite occasional controversies, he remained a respected figure in literature and philosophy until his death.
