Marcus Luttrell

Marcus Luttrell grew up in Texas with his twin brother, Morgan.

They began training for the SEALs at age 14 under former Army soldier Billy Shelton.

Luttrell joined the Navy in 1999 and completed BUD/S training, graduating with Class 228 after overcoming a fractured femur.

He became a team medic in 2001.

On June 28, 2005, Luttrell and SEAL Team 10 were assigned to Operation Red Wing, a mission to capture or kill Taliban leader Ahmad Shah in Afghanistan.

This operation would become the central focus of Luttrell's book, detailing the harrowing experience that left him as the lone survivor of his team.
