Megan Phelps-Roper

Megan Phelps-Roper is the granddaughter of Fred Phelps, founder of the Westboro Baptist Church.

Raised in the church from birth, she became a prominent spokesperson, particularly on social media.

Through online interactions, she began questioning her beliefs, ultimately leading to her departure from the church in 2012 at age 26.

Since leaving, Phelps-Roper has become an advocate for dialogue and understanding across ideological divides.

She has given a TED talk on her experiences and continues to speak about the dangers of extremism and the importance of empathy.

Her memoir, Unfollow, details her journey from devout church member to outspoken critic of its teachings.
