Peace Pilgrim
Born in 1908
Peace Pilgrim , born Mildred Lisette Norman, was an American pacifist and peace activist.
In 1952, she became the first woman to walk the entire Appalachian Trail in one season.
On January 1, 1953, she adopted the name "Peace Pilgrim" and began walking across the United States to promote peace.
She continued this pilgrimage for 28 years, covering over 25,000 miles.
Peace Pilgrim lived simply, carrying only basic necessities and relying on the kindness of strangers for food and shelter.
She stopped counting miles in 1964 but continued her mission, speaking to individuals and groups about inner and world peace.
