Pope Francis

Jorge Mario Bergoglio , known as Pope Francis, was born in 1936 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

He worked as a chemical technologist and bouncer before becoming a priest in 1969.

Rising through the Church ranks, he became Archbishop of Buenos Aires in 1998 and cardinal in 2001.

Elected Pope in 2013, Francis is known for his humility, concern for the poor, and interfaith dialogue.

He has maintained traditional Church views on social issues while advocating for action on climate change and criticizing unbridled capitalism.
