Randolph M. Nesse

Randolph M. Nesse, MD is a pioneer in evolutionary medicine and psychiatry.

As Professor of Life Sciences at Arizona State University, he founded the Center for Evolution Medicine.

Previously at the University of Michigan, he helped establish one of the first anxiety disorders clinics.

Nesse co-authored "Why We Get Sick," a seminal work in evolutionary medicine.

His research focuses on how natural selection shapes regulatory mechanisms for defenses like pain and anxiety, as well as the origins and functions of emotions.

Nesse aims to integrate evolutionary biology into medical science and serves as President of the International Society for Evolution, Medicine & Public Health.
