He worked in theater as an actor and director before transitioning to film.
McKee sold several screenplays and wrote for TV shows like Columbo.
In 1983, he started teaching his famous STORY seminar at USC, which he later opened to the public.
The seminar has attracted over 50,000 students worldwide, including staff from major studios.
McKee's book Story, based on his seminar, became a bestseller and is required reading in many film schools.
