Shirin Ebadi is an Iranian lawyer, human rights activist, and Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
Born in 1947, she became Iran's first female judge in 1975.
After the 1979 Islamic Revolution, she was demoted due to her gender.
Undeterred, Ebadi focused on writing and eventually resumed practicing law in 1993.
She founded the Children's Rights Support Association in Iran and has been a vocal advocate for democracy, human rights, and women's and children's rights.
Her efforts earned her the Nobel Peace Prize in 2003, making her the first Iranian and Muslim woman to receive this honor.
Ebadi's work has faced significant opposition from the Iranian government, leading to her eventual exile.
