Steve Toltz

Steve Toltz , born in 1972, is an Australian novelist.

His debut novel, A Fraction of the Whole, was published in 2008 to critical acclaim.

The book, a comic novel about a family of Australian outcasts, alternates narration between Jasper Dean and his father Martin Dean.

It spans Martin's entire life and beyond, set in Australia, Paris, and Thailand.

Toltz's work has been compared to John Kennedy Toole's A Confederacy of Dunces.

Before his literary career, Toltz worked various jobs in different countries, including cameraman, telemarketer, and English teacher.

A Fraction of the Whole was shortlisted for the 2008 Man Booker Prize and the Guardian First Book Award.
