Sir Thomas More was an English Renaissance humanist, lawyer, and statesman who served as Lord High Chancellor under Henry VIII. He is best known for writing Utopia, which describes an idealized communist society.
More opposed the Protestant Reformation and Henry VIII's break from the Catholic Church, leading to his execution for treason in 1535.
He was later canonized as a Catholic saint and named patron of statesmen and politicians.
