Valerie Jean Solanas was an American radical feminist writer born in 1936.
She is most infamous for shooting artist Andy Warhol in 1968, nearly killing him.
Solanas wrote the controversial SCUM Manifesto, which advocated for the elimination of men and creation of an all-female society.
She had a troubled life marked by abuse, mental illness, and homelessness.
Despite her notoriety, some feminists view Solanas as an important voice in the movement.
She died in 1988 of pneumonia, leaving behind a complex legacy as both a criminal and cult feminist figure.
