William Sleator

William Warner Sleator III was an American author known for his inventive young adult science fiction and fantasy novels.

Born in 1945 in Maryland, he grew up in St. Louis and graduated from Harvard with degrees in music and English.

Sleator wrote for over three decades, gaining recognition for his ability to thrill readers with unique concepts and suspenseful plots.

His novel "House of Stairs" was particularly acclaimed, named one of the best novels of the 20th century by the Young Adult Library Services Association.

Sleator's works often explored psychological themes and moral dilemmas within fantastical settings.

He spent his later years in Thailand, where he passed away in August 2011, leaving behind a legacy of thought-provoking literature for young readers.
