Founded as a basement-run role-playing game publisher, the company gained prominence with Magic: The Gathering, which popularized collectible card games.

They acquired Dungeons & Dragons by purchasing TSR and found success with the Pokémon Trading Card Game.

Wizards publishes role-playing games, board games, and collectible card games, earning numerous awards including Origins Awards.

Since 1999, it has been a subsidiary of Hasbro.

The company's headquarters are in Renton, Washington.

Wizards of the Coast closed all its retail stores in 2004.
